Everything you need to know about Valve´s Steambox

Valve finally announced their “console” the Steambox a few day ago, but it isn´t going to be a regular console.
They joined up with Xi3, a computer developer specialized in tiny computers to bring you their new system which is momentarily only called “Computer Game System”. Which basically is a tiny computer specialized for Steam and it´s big picture mode. You can take a look at the trailer for one of Xi3´s mini PCs above, Valve´s console probably is going to look very similar to Xi3´s previous works.

You might think there is going to be only one version of this “Computer Game System”, this is not the case. Because they announced besides the official Steambox because valve is partnering also with some other not yet specified companies, which will be able to create their own version of a Steam-optimized device. The Steambox will run using Linux as it´s operating System, but you have the choice to install any version of Windows if you want to. Valve´s owner Gabe Newell stated in a interview with Polygon the following:

“We’re not going to make it hard. This is not some locked box by any stretch of the imagination. We also think that a controller that has higher precision and lower latency is another interesting thing to have.”

They also asked about the possibility to use Netflix on the Steambox and he responded by saying:
“Oh absolutely. You can fire up a web browser, you can do whatever you want.”

There are still many thing unclear about this new device, like what other companies are developing the other versions, we will keep you updated on new new announcements.
